3,14BAN Case Study: Limited-Edition Upcycled Banner Merch for a UNDP Ukraine Initiative
3,14BAN created a limited-edition upcycled set made from a banner that was part of the UNDP Ukraine initiative “Ideathon of Creative Solutions for Communities: Recipes for Resilience and Recovery.” The initiative supports communities in developing and implementing ideas, projects, and plans for recovery and growth — with the support of the European Union and the Government of Denmark.
For us, this is more than “producing merch.” It’s about preserving the meaning of the event in the design — and choosing a responsible solution that doesn’t create new waste.
Challenge
To rethink the banner after the event and transform it into practical items for work and learning — things that are useful every day, not something that ends up sitting on a shelf.
Solution: a three-item set made from one banner
We gave the material a second life and created items that strengthen daily workflows and team interaction:
- Laptop sleeve made from the banner — protection, everyday convenience, and high wear resistance.
- Notebook made from the banner — for notes, meetings, planning, and daily tasks.
- Facilitation dice — a tool for team sessions and workshops that helps start dialogue, choose formats, and structure group work.
Why it works as corporate merch
Upcycled banner merch is a format that solves several tasks at once:
- No new materials are produced — we work with what already exists.
- Waste is reduced by extending the life of a PVC banner in functional products.
- The memory and meaning of the event are preserved — part of the visual story becomes objects that stay with the team.
- It looks truly unique because every banner fragment is different, so each item has its own character.
This case shows how a banner can become an eco-friendly corporate gift and sustainable merch — without extra production, with real usefulness and respect for resources.
