What does

What does "Pi" have to do with it?

We decided to dedicate our first article to introducing you to the history of the 3,14BAN | Piban brand and the meaning of our name.

So, the story begins in 2019 in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. At that time, three girls were united by the idea of creating something special and eco-friendly.

Kateryna Uvarova, who is the ideological inspirer, was then graduating from the Sociology Department of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and she saw that after events, banners become useless, as the information on them becomes irrelevant.

The question arose whether there was any way to recycle them. It turned out that there is no banner recycling plant in Ukraine, and that used banners often end up in landfills, and this material takes 100 to 500 years to decompose.

Yulia Uvarova, who is in charge of finance at Piban, had a large number of banners that had served their purpose (they had outdated information on them: phone numbers, website). The only thing left to do was to figure out what new form the banner could take. Thanks to brainstorming, it was decided to try sewing a bag, as banner is a fabric that is highly durable, wear-resistant, and long-lasting.

Next came the search for a seamstress who would agree to experiment, be creative and create. The search lasted for several days and eventually we found our fairy seamstress Olya Kazbekova, who is a fan of her craft.

We sewed our first bag, which we still use to send to the post office, posted the result on social media, and our business took off. Individual tailoring, corporate orders, festivals, fairs...

Of course, there were some difficulties we faced, but we'll talk about them in other articles.

But what does Pi have to do with it?

The most frequent question we hear: "Why Piban? What does Pi have to do with it?" Let us tell you.

The brand was named 3.14 BAN (PIBAN). The number "pi" starts with 3.14, but never ends - just like the stream of garbage that humanity generates. And "BAN" is not only an abbreviation for "banner" but also a "ban" on the path of this endless stream.

We hope you enjoyed this format of stories.
